The Details:

Bent Duo (David Friend, piano and Bill Solomon, percussion) is excited to make their debut at Center for New Music as part of their first tour of the west coast. This ensemble explores the overlap between percussion and piano through the commissioning of new works that exploit the expressive potential of this pairing, along with selections from the existing repertoire. The virtuosic duo has been collaborating with many of new music’s best known composers and ensembles in NYC for many years, and bring with them a high level of expertise, precision and power.

Inner Movements is a collective of percussionists and string players celebrating the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. Crystal Pascucci and Mark Clifford will be presenting one work scored for open instrumentation, realized through vibraphone and cello. They will also perform a piece written by Clifford, which incorporates improvisation, as well as standard notation. These players have been improvising and performing for many years in the vibrant creative music scene, active and well, in Oakland. Mark composes for and leads The Dirty Snacks Ensemble, a sextet of violin, saxophone, piano, bass, drums and vibraphone. Crystal and Mark will release a debut album for their project, Two Aerials this January. Both performers have a strong presences in the improvised, classical and new music worlds.

On January 30th, Bent Duo and Inner Movements will collaborate on their final set to play works by NYC composer Aaron Siegel, conceptual LA-based Casey Anderson, and a tribute to Pauline Oliveros.
